Bishop Carroll will have a shot to end a three year state title drought next week after the Golden Eagles breezed by Maize 17-1 to win a regional championship Wednesday.
Last year's 5A runner-up went off for an 8 run second inning, capped by a home run from Kadence Brewster to put the game out of reach for the Eagles, ending it on a walk-off home run from senior Kaylin Watkins.
The top seed in 5A West will now go back to the state tournament as the 2 seed behind Shawnee Heights. The Golden Eagles, now sitting with a 20-2 overall record, are expected to open up play against Emporia Thursday from Maize.
