The stakes for Bishop Carroll were simple Tuesday. Win, you finish in the top four of Class 5A and have home-court advantage. Lose, you drop all the way to the seventh seed. And thanks to an incredible third quarter run, it's the former that awaits the Golden Eagles.
Entering the third, Carroll trailed the Falcons 19-16 following a low scoring first half. The teams traded buckets to begin the second, then Carroll caught fire. Carsen Pracht hit four three pointers in the third quarter alone as Carroll turned a 26-22 deficit into a 42-26 lead early in the fourth. Pracht finished with a game-best 23 points, including 6 three pointers in the second half.
Tanner Mans hit three shots from behind the arc himself, the pair combining for 9 of Carroll's 10 makes from deep in the second. They scored more than Heights did for the game in the second half alone to the tune of 46 second half points.
The win for Carroll, combined with a loss by Maize South on Tuesday, slides Bishop Carroll all the way up to the 3 seed in 5A, setting up a third round of the Holy War to begin the postseason next week. Kapaun will enter as the 14 seed and travel to Bishop Carroll for that first round matchup.
But because of the Maize South loss, Wichita Heights will still enter sub-state with home court advantage, securing the 4 seed in class 5A. They'll host Salina South to open their playoff next week.
