Campus knocks off Derby for first time in 15 years
Campus and Derby have played in one of the more one-sided rivalries in the area for years now.
For 15 straight years, Derby has come out on top of the Colts in boys basketball, 26 consecutive victories. That streak came to an end Tuesday night.
For the first quarter, it looked like Derby would keep their rivals at bay. They held the Colts to just 6 points, scoreless for over four minutes to begin play.
Then in the second quarter they turned it on. 19 points in the second frame from the Colts to just 7 from Derby gave Campus a 25-17 halftime lead.
Then the second half was as entertaining as they come. Derby came storming back, tying the game back up midway through the fourth. They kept that momentum going to take a 5 point lead.
But from there it was all Colts. Campus ended the game on a 9-0 run to take the lead back and the game, 52-48.
Things get no easier for Derby as the now 1-6 Panthers will host 5A's top team Wichita Heights Thursday in the GWAL/AVCTL Challenge. Campus will take on Wichita East Saturday in a top ten matchup.
