Bishop Carroll will put their perfect record on the line Saturday, taking on Lawrence Free State in the finals of the McPherson Invitational Tournament after both came away with big semifinal wins on Friday night.
In the first semifinal, Lawrence Free State held Derby to just 16 second half points in coming back from eight down in the second quarter to win big, 67-51.
Free State was lead by a double-double from DK Middleton, who finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, 14 of those points coming after halftime as he lead the comeback charge.
Derby went in quick 6-0 hole before rattling off the next 7 points to go up, and the quarter ended tied up at 12.
In the second Derby's offense took off, scoring 23 points to lead by as much as 8 at 35-27, but Free State scored the last four points of the quarter to cut the deficit in half entering the locker room.
But after halftime Derby's offense went cold, the Panthers scoring just 7 points in the third and falling behind never to recover.
Andrew Piper and Olin Yoder both put up 12 each for the Firebirds in addition to Middleton's 22. For Derby, Amari Thomas lead the way with 11 points off the bench.
In the second semifinal, it was all Bishop Carroll from the first minute on with the Golden Eagles routing Blue Valley 75-46 to move on to face Free State Saturday.
Alex Littlejohn paced Carroll with 20 points and 13 rebounds, 12 of those coming in the first half as Carroll built up a 34-19 halftime lead.
That 15 point halftime lead wasn't enough with the Golden Eagle offense improving coming out of the locker room, shooting 60% in the second half in putting up 42 points.
Littlejohn was one of four for Carroll in double figures; Tanner Mans totaled 16, Enrique Lankford 13 and Brenyn St. Vrain 10.
The Final is set for Saturday at 7pm from McPherson.
