For a third straight season, Bishop Carroll will be one of eight teams competing for a state championship as the Golden Eagles topped rival Kapaun in two sets, 25-23, 25-10 to make a return trip to Salina.
The first set was everything you want in a Holy War matchup, with the two teams trading points for much of the match before Kapaun went on a run, scoring 5 of 6 points to force a Carroll timeout at 11-7. The Golden Eagles came out of the timeout to go on a run of their own to tie the match at 12.
The teams went back to trading points until Carroll pulled ahead 23-19, before Kapaun came back to cut it to one, 24-23. Then Jadyn Brown got a kill to end the set and give Carroll the 1-0 advantage.
The second set was much more decisive, with Carroll jumping out to a 7-3 lead, later going on a big run to get the lead to 24-9, eventually taking the final set 25-10.
From 5A West, Bishop Carroll will be joined by Maize South, Andover and Goddard as sub-state champions competing in Salina on November 1st and 2nd.
