The Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles continue a basketball season with a tough win over Wichita Southeast. Entering the game, both teams only had one loss to their records. The Golden Eagles were able to keep their win streak intact with a 32-30 comeback win on Friday.
Wichita Southeast was fast from the opening tip against Carroll looking to score in transition early and often. The Buffaloes were able to find success in the paint with a mix of jump shots and post play.
Sariah Sumpter was big for Southeast in the paint on both ends of the ball. She was able to draw a charge in the third quarter that slowed down the Carroll momentum. On offense Sumpter controlled the glass for Southeast pulling down rebounds to create second chance points.
Before the first half buzzer, Landon Forbes hit a fade-away jump shot to boost the Golden Eagles before halftime. That boost would help carry Bishop Carroll in the last two quarters.
The Golden Eagles fought back following a slow start to the second half of play before ultimately storming back for the big win. Carroll utilized a strong slate of guards to help put them over the top. Kendall Forbes added on for Carroll in the third quarter by getting to the lane and finishing at the rim.
Defensively, the Golden Eagles were able to stall Southeast in the open court and create turnovers, holding the Buffaloes to only three fourth quarter points. Carroll’s offense was then able to create a comeback scoring 18 in the final frame.
Southeast returns to the court next week against Wichita South while Bishop Carroll will host Wichita Heights.
