Class 5A No. 10 Andover swept its way into the state tournament by not dropping a set on its home floor.
The third-seeded Trojans jumped out to an early lead in both sets in the championship match against No. 6-seed McPherson, but ended the Bullpups’ season 25-19, 25-19.
Andover survived a few runs from McPherson, but consistently led by at least four points throughout the match.
The Trojans nearly dropped its first set to No. 14-seed Ark City (13-21), but the Trojans stayed on track and made quick work of the Bulldogs 26-24, 25-10.
McPherson had a more difficult time with No. 11-seed Goddard Eisenhower (20-17), but were able to send the Tigers home 25-21, 25-19.
The Bullpups kept their energy up throughout the championship match, posting a few decent runs to get within striking distance, but Andover never looked threatened or felt out of control of the match.
Andover’s Korynn Haetten put the match on ice, scoring the Trojans’ final two points to send her team to the state tournament.
Andover wraps up the regular season with a 32-6 record as McPherson’s season ends with a 27-11 record.
The 5A state tournament will be Nov. 1-2 at Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina.
