After trailing by as much as 10 in the second quarter and 8 at halftime, Andover came back to top Kapaun Mt. Carmel 54-52 in the GWAL/AVCTL Challenge Friday.
Jack Johnson scored 18 to lead the Trojans, 10 of those coming after halftime including a personal 5-0 run in the third quarter that tied the game at 40, before Harper Jonas punched in 2 of his 12 to give the Trojans their first lead since the first quarter.
From that point though Kapaun responded with an 8-0 run, the first 6 of those coming from the free throw line to go up 6 in the fourth quarter.
But then Andover came back for a second time, going on a run of their own capped by threes from Johnson and Jack Taylor, the latter giving them a lead that they would not relinquish.
Freshman Will Anciaux paced the Crusaders with 16 points, but he was unable to hit the final shot of the game as they suffered their first loss of the season. With the win Andover moved to 3-0, with wins now over McPherson, Andale and Kapaun.
