Andover Central tops Maize in State Semifinal rematch
Behind 26 points from Xavier Bell, Andover Central outscored Maize 19-9 down the stretch to pull away and keep their season alive Tuesday.
Bell had 17 of his points before the break, keying an early 9-0 run that saw the Jags pull ahead from a 9-5 deficit and never look back. They took a 30-20 lead into the break, eventually pushing that to as much as 15, 43-28.
But the Eagles came back strong, scoring the final 8 points of the third and turning that into a 13-1 run to cut it to a three point game.
But that was as close as it got for Maize as their season came to an end with a 12-9 record.
Central improves to 13-8 with the win, and gets a date with top seed and undefeated Bishop Carroll Friday night. Carroll toppled Maize South 72-55 on Tuesday.
