Andover Central stays perfect with win over Valley Center

VALLEY CENTER, Kan. It was one of the wildest starts to a game all year, with an exciting finish. Andover Central went to Valley Center and won 17-14 to remain unbeaten on the young 2019 season.

On the opening drive for Central, the Jags drove it down inside the redzone. When facing a 4th & 7, they went for it, and Shomari Parnell put one up down near the goal line. But it was the Hornet defender Caleb Peach who won the battle for the ball, and the Hornets took over at their one yard line.

But they marched all the way the other direction, mostly on a huge gainer from Gabe Phillips, after QB Kaleb Harden made a great throw in stride and under pressure. Phillips was taken down at the 1-yard-line.

Valley Center then brought in an offensive lineman to pound in the ball, but a fumbled exchange was recovered by Drew Daniels of the Jags.

Nobody scored until late in the 2nd, until Parnell hit Xavier Bell on a 58-yard bomb. The Jags took a 17-0 lead into the half. And despite a furious second half rally, the Jags came out on top.
