ANDOVER, Kan. - If you're a fan of defense, this rematch was the one for you. To open the year, Andover Central came away with a tight 13-3 road win at Augusta.
The two teams were matched up again to open the 4A playoffs, and for awhile this felt like a repeat game. At halftime, the score was 3-0 in favor of the Jaguars.
That score held for the first 9 plus minutes of the second half, before Central broke through. Shomari Parnell connected on a deep pass with Matt Macy who took it across the goal line for the 41 yard score, giving Central a seemingly insurmountable 10 point lead.
With that score came momentum in the favor of the home team. The next drive, Augusta's Jayden Wilson threw a pick to Sam Thomas to took the Jags inside the 10 yard line.
A second Blake Robison field goal pushed the lead to 13-0, before the Jaguar defense again picked off Wilson, Trey DeGarmo bringing in this one. Augusta would cut it to a one score game late, but it wasn't enough as the Orioles fell 16-7 to see their season come to an end.
With the win, Andover Central gets yet another rematch, heading to Goddard to face the Lions. In week three, the Jaguars fell to Goddard 17-16 in an overtime thriller.
