ANDALE, Kan. (KWCH) -- Chapman entered Friday's playoff game against undefeated Andale as the underdog, and the Irish knew they would need their "A" game if they were going to upset the Indians. But Andale came out of the gate fast to destroy any ideas of hope for the Fighting Irish.
The Indians forced two turnovers in the first five minutes of the game to establish control early. Andale made the Chapman miscues hurt as Ethan Baalman scored on two touchdown runs and the Indians led 14-0 before the crowd even had a chance to settle into their seats.
The Fighting Irish were only allowed to get things going when Andale made a mistake of their own with a fumble. Chapman quarterback Izek Jackson scored on an 11 yard keeper and the two point conversion cut the lead to 14-8.
But after the minor setback the Indians simply bounced back with more resolve. Andale cranked up the rushing attack and went back to work. Eli Rowland keyed another Indians drive when he broke loose for a 34 yard run. A couple of plays later Mac Brand finished the drive with a power 10 yard touchdown run where he trucked a defender at the goal-line. The 2 point conversion put Andale up 22-8.
The Indians added a safety in the second quarter when the snap on a punt went over the Chapman punter. The Andale defense converged on the Fighting Irish player to go up 24-0.
From that point on the Indians never looked back. Andale advances to the next round of the playoffs with the big 66-22 victory.
