ANDOVER, Kan. Columbia commit Scott Valentas scored 3 times, and Kapaun Mt. Carmel held on for a tight win over Andover 33-26 Friday night.
Valentas got the scoring started with a 31 yard TD run, to put Kapaun up 7-0 in the 1st.
Andover bounced right back though, on an Eli Fahnestock screen pass to Peyton Henry. A missed EP made it 7-6. Fahnestock finished 26/38 for 272 yards, 2 TD, and 2 INT.
Then after two Andover field goals to make it 12-7 in the 2nd quarter, a sack and fumble gave the Trojans the ball back. Fahnestock punched one in on a QB keeper to make it 19-7.
Then Kapaun took over. Valentas scored twice from a yard out, once before the half, and again in the 3rd quarter to give the Crusaders a 21-19 lead. A Parker Manning pick six seconds later sealed it, and KMC holds on for the win.
Kapaun moves to 4-0 on the season. Andover falls to 2-2.
