CHENEY, Kan. (KWCH) - For the first time in school history, the Cheney Cardinals will play for a state championship in football. To get there, Cheney had the monumental task of slaying a giant for the second time this season.

Last month, Cheney ended Andale’s nation-leading win streak at 57 games. Friday night, the top-seeded Cardinals did it again, storming back from a 24-0 hole to beat Andale 28-24, ending the Indians’ quest for a fifth straight Class 3A state championship.

No. 1 Cheney moves on to face Topeka Hayden in the 3A state title game, kicking off at 1 p.m. next Saturday, Nov. 25, at Hutchinson’s Gowans Stadium.
