Derby overcomes Manhattan to get to 6A semifinal

After falling short of the 6A title game in rare fashion in 2022, the new look Derby Panthers are hoping to be the group to return the program to dominance.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (KWCH) - The Derby Panthers exacted a bit of revenge Friday night, taking down the defending Class 6A champions on the road, 23-21. After losing to Manhattan twice last season -- including in the playoffs -- and coming up short against the Indians again in the first week of this season, the Panthers broke through the frustration in walk-off fashion.

Down 21-20 with 30 seconds left, the Panthers kicked a game-winning field goal. Derby moves on to face undefeated Washburn Rural in Topeka next Friday with the winner advancing to the Class 6A championship game on Nov. 25.
