East makes statement, handles Northwest to move on in 6A
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Wichita East and Wichita Northwest played arguably the game of the season a few weeks ago in which East won on a last-second touchdown that developed from a botched snap on an attempted field goal. East’s win ultimately secured a tie for the Great Wichita Athletic League (City League) title with Northwest and Kapaun. East and Northwest met again Friday night with even more on the line.
In Round 2, East made a statement, building a sizeable lead over Northwest and shocking the Grizzlies, 48-28 to move on in the Class 6A playoffs. With the win, East advances to face Washburn Rural, the top seed in the Class 6A West bracket.
