Wichita County dominates St. John in shutout performance
St. John, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - The Wichita County Indians dominated the St. John Tigers in a 52-0 victory.
Wichita County entered the game undefeated and surrendered their first season points against Hoxie last week.
St. John won the coin toss. Wichita County elected to go for the onside kick and recovered the ball.Wyatt Gardner went back in pass formation for the Indians and found Cashton Young for a 42-yard touchdown reception on the game’s second play.
Wichita County quickly led 8-0 after the two-point conversion.
St. John recovered the short kick this time. They were unable to do much with it and turned the ball over on downs.Wyatt Gardner completed the next drive with another touchdown pass to Cashton Young for 29 yards. Colton Harbin caught a shovel pass on the two-point conversion to make the score 16-0.Wyatt Gardner would score the next two touchdowns himself with rushes of 29 and 20 yards.
By the end of the first quarter, the Indians led St. John 32-0.After going up 46-0, Wichita County turned to the second-string quarterback. Dylan Luna led a drive of 40 yards for the night’s final score.Wyatt Gardner finished the game with five rushes for 90 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw seven passes, completing five for 84 yards and three of those for touchdowns.Cashton Young caught two passes, both touchdowns, for a total of 71 receiving yards.The Indians’ only blemish on the night came from penalties. They were called for seven flags for 42 yards.”It was good to see our guys come out after a hard-hitting battle last week and still have good energy and focus,” said Wichita County Head Coach Brant Douglas.
St. John sees their record go to 2-2 and will playin county rival Stafford.
The 4-0 Wichita County Indians will face Spearville in District play next week.
