State golf: Carroll’s Holtzman wins 5A with record round of 61

McPherson, Kan. (KWCH) - After trailing his own teammate heading into Day 2 of the KSHSAA 5A State Boys Golf Championships, Bishop Carroll senior Noah Holtzman fired a second-round 61 (9-under par) to claim medalist honors.
The round sets a course and tournament record as he wins back-to-back titles. His personal best prior to Tuesday was a 7-under 65. He finished 13-under par to win with a two-day total of 127, seven strokes ahead of Kapaun’s Asher Whitaker. Hutch’s Ty Adkins and Carroll’s Maximus Farber finished 5-under for the tournament.
Carroll (555) held off Kapaun (565) and Eisenhower (570) to claim first place in the 5A team race.
In 2A, Salina-Sacred Heart set a state record with an eighth-straight team championship. They shot a two-round total of 597 to beat Hill City by 44 strokes.
Sacred Heart’s Michael Matteucci finished 3-under for the tournament to win state with a 139 two-day total, outlast Ellinwood’s Andrew Heinz.
