The regular season has come to a close. Week 7 of the tracker marks the final set of best times and marks throughout the 2023 season. A list of state qualifiers with qualifying times and marks will be posted as soon as possible this weekend.

Athletes did finish the regular season with a bang. League meets were held around the state on May 11 and May 12, and many top times and marks will reflect those two dates.

The shot put competition remains strong around the state this spring. Thursday, Beloit senior Grady Seyfert tossed the ball 62-4 to expand on his state lead. Two other throwers have surpassed 59 feet this spring, and Seyfert has solid company with five of the state’s top-eight shot putters all coming out of Class 3A. Seyfert’s best discus throw of 195-8 this season ranks No. 14 all-time in Kansas, and leads a talented state field by three-plus feet.

Kansas has seen unprecedented success in the distance runs this year. Shawnee Mission East senior Wyatt Haughton and Wichita Trinity junior Clay Shively posted two of the top-12 best times ever in Kansas this spring. On Friday, St. Thomas Aquinas senior Alex Waldie went a step further, climbing to No. 5 on the state’s all-time list with a 1:50.52 to open up a 0.9 second lead this spring.

More than 320 meets were ranked throughout the 2023 season. Best of luck to all athletes headed to the state championships in Wichita next week.
