Week six of the track season proved to be the best one yet. Warmer temperatures meant a general reset of most times and marks, as indicated in the charts with May 2 and May 5 dates from Tuesday and Friday meets. Nowhere was that more accurate than the Shawnee Mission North Relays on Friday where two Kansas all-time bests were reset.

The Olathe West girls (6A) set the state record in the 4x800m relay last year at 9:17. At Friday’s SM North Relays, the Lady Owls smashed that record with the win in 9:03.42. St. James Academy (5A) sits No. 2 in Kansas this year at 9:37.25.

There’s a new hurdle leader this year in Kansas. Hutchinson’s AnnaLisa Cullens has led the state all spring with a 14.05 in the 100s. Friday in Goddard, Wichita Northwest junior Adryana Shelby ran a 14.03 to win the gold. Shelby also posted a 45.06 in the 300s to overtake Cullens for the state lead in that race. With her 100m hurdle time, Shelby takes the No. 7 all-time spot in Kansas, and moves Cullens to No. 8.

The top shot put throwers from Classes 1A and 2A met last Tuesday in Atwood. Rawlins County junior Abby Micek, throwing on her home turf, won the gold at 40-0. Wallace County junior Ja’Asia Stafford took the silver by more than seven feet at 39-2. Stafford is the reigning 1A champion, and Micek has moved to Class 2A after placing third in 1A last May.
