The cold and rain may have been ideal for farmers, but it did track and field athletes few favors late last week. Some meets were canceled and others saw abbreviated schedules. But there was still plenty of movement across all the charts. Heading into the final week before league meets, 222 meets have been tallied.

The cold may have impacted some athletes Friday at the large Bob Camien/Claudia Welch meet hosted by Topeka Seaman. But not Shawnee Mission Northeast senior Paige Mullen, who ran a 10:30.55 in the 3200m run to move to eighth all-time in Kansas. Stanton County senior Chesney Peterson ran a 10:27.99 earlier this year to rank No. 7 all-time.

Friday’s 100m hurdle race in Hutchinson proved to be a historic one. Lady Salthawk senior AnnaLisa Cullens just missed her best time of the season. She currently ranks No. 7 all-time in Kansas. Wichita Northwest junior Adyranna Shelby gave Cullens her best race of the year, finishing just 0.02 seconds behind Cullens in the finals in 14.11. Shelby moves to No. 11 all-time in Kansas.

Phillipsburg’s Heather Schemper, a former 400m state champion in Class 3A, already led all-classes in that race this season. Monday in Oberlin, Schemper ran a 12.65 in the 100m dash to move to No. 4 in Class 3A. Schemper also ranks No. 3 in the 3A 200m dash.
