Wichita Trinity junior Clay Shively set the bar high with the state’s second-fastest 3200m run ever in week one. No one was able to follow suit in week two, but a pair of strong northeast Kansas meets on Friday, and the Pre-State Challenge in Wichita on Thursday largely reset the Class 6A and 5A distance ranks. A sub-10 minute 3200m run is now required to break into the top-16 in both classes.
Hays senior Keamonie Archie climbed to No. 13 all-time in Kansas with a long jump of 24-7.5 last week in Pratt. He broke a 42-year-old school record along the way. No other jumper has surpassed 23 feet this spring. At the Pre-State Challenge, Class 1A’s Alec Carlson, a senior from Pawnee Heights, won the elite high jump, long jump, and triple jump.

Through two-plus weeks of action, 94 meets have been tallied. Most of the sheets have filled but some events remain open to the next great competitors. Many of the top times and marks were reset with big meets and nice weather last Thursday and Friday.
