The Catch it Kansas Track Tracker is back! The first 10 days of the 2023 prep track season are in the books. More athletes met the cutline across the six classifications, meaning many of the top-16 rankings are already full. Many schools have yet to compete and will help fill out the rankings next week. Wind no doubt played a factor in many of the events, but especially the javelin and pole vaults. Those two events were not included in several meets across the state.

Classes 5A and 3A have featured some exceptional hurdlers in recent years. Mill Valley’s Quincy Hubert won in Class 5A before moving on to Nebraska. Andover’s McKinlee Walker and Great Bend’s Mackenzie Premer were supposed to be next in line for the 5A crown. But Wellington’s Class 4A champion Anna Cullens moved to Hutchinson, and Hutchinson traded places with Mill Valley as the lone team to move into Class 5A this year. Cullens now leads 5A and the state in a talented hurdle field.

Andale senior Mackenzie Fairchild will turn heads in the throwing events all season. She jumped out to the early state lead in the javelin with a toss of nearly 151 feet in her first competition of the season.
