Phillipsburg wins first state tournament game in school history
HUTCHINSON, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - After housing one of the best guards in Kansas for the last four years, Phillipsburg and Taryn Sides were finally able to get their coveted first win in a state tournament game, topping Riley County 40-27.
Although it was the one vs. eight seed matchup, Riley County didn’t play much like an eight seed in the early goings. Anna Lambert and Colbi Rignell helped lead the charge for the Falcons to keep it to single digits for the entirety of the first half.
A big reason the Falcons were able to keep it within striking distance is due to the first half defense on 2,000-points club member, Taryn Sides. The Kansas State commit posted just one made field goal in the first 16 minutes before coming out of the locker room on fire posting 12 of her 14 points in the second half to lengthen the lead.
Phillipsburg will now be on the hunt for state win number two as they will be on display Friday in a great matchup Friday at 2 p.m. against the 22-2 Cheney Cardinals.
