HILLSBORO, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Friday night’s action in Hillsboro featured two ranked girls teams going at it to open the night, and what looked like could’ve put the CKL on upset watch in the boys matchup.

#4 Hillsboro holds on in overtime to top 3A #7 Hesston

In the opening matchup of the night, both ranked teams took turns trading blows. The Trojans jumped out to an early lead, but it didn’t take Kendal Brueggen and the Swathers to storm back to make this a tight game. It stayed tight the whole second half, and ended regulation with a Carley Bartell finish inside with under two minutes to play to tie the game up. In overtime though it was all Hillsboro, as the Trojans jumped out to a 5 point lead early and sealed the deal with free throws late to move to 12-3 on the season. Savannah Shahan led the scoring for the Trojans with 12 points, with Zaylee Werth and Kingzley Ratzlaff.

Hillsboro on the other hand lost a lot of their state championship squad to graduation and were off to a 5-9 record on the season. Nevertheless, the Trojans found a way to battle with the Swathers through the first half, heading into the locker rooms tied.
