Wichita Southeast advances to Mid-America Classic Championship
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - The Wichita Southeast Golden Buffaloes advanced to the Championship game of the 28th Mid-America Classic girls basketball tournament after a 43-34 victory over the Clearwater Indians.
Clearwater led early after Elizabeth Tjaden scored the first points with a layup. Southeast’s Aniyah Harris hit back-to-back threes to give the Golden Buffaloes a 6-2 lead.
Clearwater allowed 14 points in the first quarter. Their defense came alive in the second quarter, allowing Southeast only two points. They took a 17-16 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Golden Buffaloes came alive in the third quarter. They scored 19 points and only gave up nine to Clearwater. Both teams would score eight points each in the last quarter. Clearwater’s Elizabeth Tjaden led all scorers with 19 points, including seven field goals, one three-pointer, and four of four from the free-throw line.
Ma’khiya Jones led Wichita Southeast in scoring with 15 points. She made five field goals and five of six free throws. Aniyah Harris scored 14 points from three three-pointers, and three of three from the free-throw line.Southeast will face St. James Academy for the tournament Championship tomorrow evening.
