Hutch pulls off sweep over Maize South to stay perfect
HUTCHINSON, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Friday night in the Salthawk Activity Center, both the Hutchinson boys and girls needed big performances to maintain their perfect records. Both sides did just that and both walk away with an unscathed record.
Salthawk women trio lead way over Mavericks
The Hutch women started the night off jumping out to an early lead and never looking back despite a comeback effort from Maize South, 56-50. Leading the way was the sophomore duo of Aliyah Green and Grace Posch with 19 and 15, respectively. Josie McLean also finished in double digits with 12.
Hutch takes down #1 Maize South with three-point barrage
To finish the night off was a top five matchup in 5A as #1 Maize South visited #4 Hutchinson. Heading into Friday night many were considering Maize South the best team in the state in all classes. But as the cliché goes, to beat a team that is on fire, you have to make it rain.
Hutch did just that, knocking down double digit three-pointers with senior guard Garrett Robertson pouring in five himself. Maize South led for majority of the game, but the Salthawks got hot at the right time to pull off the comeback and fend off the Mavs late.
“I thought we shot the ball tremendously well,” Hutch head coach Bryan Miller said. “The second half we got it going. Wade Meyer hit some big shots, other guys were starting to make some shots too. Garrett Robertson made some shots. Nick Lange our five stepped up and made a three. So yeah, we did a good job and that momentum I thought the crowd was great. It was fantastic atmosphere and credit our guys because they got tough when it mattered.”
“This was huge. I mean, we’ve had a lot of good games for us. This was this was a big kind of statement from Hutch that we’re actually here this year. And this this was really important to me and to our whole team. As a community. I think you could hear how crazy it was. I mean, it was just it was awesome to get this. I think we have a chance to win it all but I’m not trying to get too cocky now. We need to keep our head down and win these and then go into the tournament and try to be the number one seed.”
