RUSSELL, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - The Russell Broncos dominated the Central Plains Oilers with a 69-26 victory to advance to the Championship game of the 2022 Amos Morris Basketball Classic.

Russell scored the first point on a free throw. They never gave up the lead after that. Five Broncos would score points in the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter, they led 21-1.

Central Plains’ lone point came from a made free throw by Peyton Ryan.

The Oilers scored 14 points in the second quarter. Evan Stratton accounted for nine of those points including two threes. Russell only scored 10 in the second quarter but held a 31-15 edge at halftime.

The Broncos came out of the locker room with a dominating third quarter. Seven players would combine to score 25 points in the period. Nine of the points came from three three-pointers with Charlie Krug making two.

The fourth quarter saw a running clock due to a 30-point difference in the score.

“We started off with the press and got some turnovers off it,” said Russell Head Coach Blaine Maier. “The Ryan kid is a great player. We just kept switching who was guarding him and things just clicked off our defense.”

Russell’s Jackson Cross led all scorers with 19 points. He made three threes and five field goals. Jace Peerman scored 12 points with four field goals and four of eight free throws. Charlie Krug added 10 with a pair each of field goals and three-pointers.
