Manhattan strengthened their hold on the top spot with a dominant showing against 5th ranked Junction City. The gap between Derby and Northwest meanwhile closed after Derby’s one point home loss to Maize. Garden City takes advantage of other team’s losses to jump into the 5 spot as one of just four 6A teams to not lose multiple games this season.

Maize nearly made the leap to the top but remains just behind Mill Valley. The defending champs have not shown any reason to lose their top spot thus far, but do play their toughest game of the season facing 6A unbeaten Olathe North Friday. Goddard’s blowout win over Maize South has the Lions on the move, now up to 8th. The Lions are 5-1 after an 0-8 campaign last fall.

The top three in 4A have really become a 1A, 1B, 1C, with all three having played each other and each with one loss in those games; Miege fell to Aquinas Friday but blew out St. James, the Thunder meanwhile have a win over the Saints. Elsewhere, Wamego looks more and more like the team to beat in the West, and have now returned Army QB commit Hayden Oviatt back from injury. McPherson slips a spot after they needed a field goal as time expired to beat Wellington. Chanute, unbeaten with all wins coming by two or more scores, goes to 5-1 Coffeyville for their toughest test in a quest for an unbeaten regular season. Atchison won a high scoring game with Highland Park, and at 6-0 are just outside the rankings.

Andale now has a 44 game win streak, making it look easy in a 49-0 shutout win over previous #2 Collegiate. Hayden moves up a spot to second before a district title game in Holton, while the Spartans hold their spot in the top three. Scott City now has back to back wins over Hugoton and Holcomb, the Beavers are responsible for each team’s lone loss as they are favorites to win a loaded district 8. Cheney makes their season debut in the poll with Parsons taking their first loss ahead of a game to decide the district 7 title with Andale.

2A saw some shifting, with Marion handing Council Grove its first loss by 31 points. The Braves just stay in the poll. Ellsworth moves up after a second half comeback win over Russell. Beloit and Hoisington both take advantage of losses to return to the poll. The Trojans have looked like a different team after losses the first two weeks, while Hoisington blanked previously unbeaten Lakin.

This week Olpe will have a shot to continue a strong run after an 0-2 start to the season with a visit to unbeaten Jayhawk-Linn.

Wichita County went to defending champ Meade and ended the Buffaloes 20 game win streak, also taking their spot at the top of our poll. South Sumner pulled away from previously unbeaten Wichita Independent after halftime and moves to third. Hoxie makes a big jump into the poll after an upset win over Hill City. The Indians’ lone loss came to Wichita Co. Their jump just pushes Macksville to the 11 spot.

Surprise unbeaten Stafford has their toughest test of the year this week with 5th ranked South Barber visiting in an unbeaten battle.
