WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Wichita Northwest showed on Friday night why they are a contender in 6A, handling Wichita East with ease winning 52-14.

It was an all-around performance for the Northwest Grizzlies. The offense led by Quarterback Jayce Glasper and the running back duo of Lj Phillips and Cencere Thompson was too much for the Blue Aces to handle. The Grizzlies scored 38 points in the first half.

The defense was also strong for Northwest, flying all over the field all night long. The Grizzlies held the Aces to one touchdown in each half. Before Friday night’s game, Wichita East was averaging 49 points-per-game, but the Grizzlies kept them in check.

Wichita Northwest head coach Steve Martin says he will take the win, but says there is still a lot to improve on.

“We just got to keep doing what we are doing,” Martin said. “My message to these guys is we got to stay focused, we are worried about the wrong things, very uncharacteristically personal fouls in that third quarter.”

Wichita Northwest will play against Topeka High at home next Friday night. Wichita East will play at home against Wichita West.
