Derby comes back to defeat Hutch, 28-21
DERBY, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Brock Zerger rushed for three touchdowns, and Dylan Edwards crossed the goal line for the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth, to help Derby survive a scare against previously unbeaten Hutch, 28-21, Friday in Derby.
The Salthawks (3-1) began the game with an interception of Zerger on the third play, eventually leading to a short rushing touchdown by quarterback Nic Lange. Zerger responded with his first rushing score of the night for a 7-6 lead.
Hutch’s second touchdown drive was aided by multiple big catches from Noah Kohkhar, setting up Lange’s second rushing touchdown. A Kohkhar rush for the two-point conversion extended the lead to 14-7.
Zerger rushed in a touchdown from 1 yard out to tie the game at 14.
Late in the second, Kohkhar executed a fake punt and weaved through tacklers for a 52-yard touchdown run and 21-14 halftime lead.
Zerger scored from 23 yards out in the third to tie the game, and Edwards scored the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth.
Miles Wash intercepted the ball in the end zone on the final play to preserve the Derby (3-1) victory.
