For the first time this season, the top ranked team in 6A came away victorious, with Manhattan holding on in a tough road contest in Hays. Last week’s top 5 teams all came away on top, Derby also surviving on a score with under a minute left to beat Bishop Carroll. Unbeatens Gardner-Edgerton and Garden City both make season debuts in the rankings.

Two of last week’s top five teams fall, but both to bigger schools in close games, so both teams hold on to their top five spots. De Soto leaps into the polls at the number 6 spot, their lone loss coming to unbeaten Washburn Rural by a touchdown. Highland Park enters the polls for the first time ever after a 3-0 start to their season; the Scots entered the season having not won a game since the 2014 season.

The defending champs fall out after an 0-3 start to the season, with things getting no easier for St. James ahead of a game against Aquinas. McPherson takes a slight dip after a loss at 6A Junction City, making way for Wamego and Eudora to crack the top five. Circle is 3-0 for the first time since the 1980 season. Louisburg debuts in the 10 spot, their lone loss coming to a 7A Arkansas school.

Scott City is the lone ranked team to fall last week, the Beavers falling in a game with Millwood, Okla. Topeka Hayden made a case to jump to the second spot, dispatching of defending 2A champion Rossville by three touchdowns. Hugoton makes their season debut in the poll, improving to 3-0. Each team in this week’s top ten won their week three game by 3 possessions or more.

All teams remain the same in the 2A poll, but that doesn’t mean there was no movement. Rossville just hangs in after a loss to Hayden, the 2-time defending champs now sitting at 1-2. Osage City took its first loss to Olpe but also remains ranked. Silver Lake makes a jump after a win over St. Marys.

Preseason number one St. Marys slips down after a second straight loss. Olpe jumps right back into the poll with its big win over Osage City. Troy is out to its best start since 2018 and move up to 4th. The Trojans travel to Centralia in the classification’s marquee matchup Friday. Trinity Catholic moves into the top five with a 3-0 start of its own.

Hill City and Wichita County both make moves up this week following a loss for Clifton-Clyde to Axtell. The Eagles stay in the polls despite the loss at number eight. Lebo handed Madison its first regular season loss since the 2017 season, dropping the Bulldogs out. Ell-Saline took its first loss since moving back to 8-man to 5th ranked Little River. Burlingame and Argonia-Attica both enter the polls with 3-0 starts. Wichita Independent, moving to 8-man this season, is 3-0 for the second time in school history, the first coming in the school’s second year of existence in 1999.

Thunder Ridge is the lone team from the poll to fall on Friday, a loss to a ranked division one team in Hill City. The Longhorns slip a few spots from third to sixth. South Barber now moves into the top five of the rankings. Minneola is 3-0 for the first time since a 6-0 start 10 years ago.
