For a second straight week, the top ranked team in our poll falls with BVNW losing to 4A number one Aquinas. With that, Manhattan completes an ascent to the top, blasting Topeka a week after the win over Derby. The Panthers now sit second to the Indians, and the Huskies fall just two spots to 3. Olathe North makes the biggest jump from unranked to 7th, beating previous number nine SMNW. Wichita East gets perhaps the biggest win of the week, beating Kapaun to enter the poll despite the week one loss to Washburn Rural. Garden City just misses the poll after their first 2-0 start since 2017.

Mill Valley and Maize both took care of business to stay in the top two spots, while Bishop Carroll moves up another place to third following KMC’s loss to East. Hays High takes the four spot ahead of hosting the top ranked team in 6A Manhattan. Maize South and Hutchinson both came away with narrow road wins against unranked foes before they face off Friday night. Goddard is out to a 2-0 start after an 0-8 season in 2021.

Aquinas showed why they’re number one, beating the top ranked team in 6A BVNW. Defending champ St. James starts the year 0-2, and takes on #2 Bishop Miege next. The Thunder were 0-4 last year before making their title run. Basehor-Linwood, who was on the cusp of entering the poll the last two weeks, enters at number 8. Circle is off to their first 2-0 start since 2010.

The top 7 spots in the poll remain unchanged, though Rock Creek made a big case to leap back into the top five with their win over St. Marys. Scott City has posted back to back shutout wins to open the season. Pratt trades places with Hesston following a 28-14 win over the Swathers. Holcomb just edges out rival Hugoton for the 10 spot in the rankings, both out to 2-0 starts.

Outside of Wichita East, perhaps the biggest win of the week belongs to Norton. The Blue Jays knocked off one of the favorites in 1A Smith Center to leap from unranked all the way to the top five. Ellsworth makes their debut in the rankings with a 2-0 start of their own.

Centralia also takes advantage of the losses ahead of them, moving to third. Two-time defending champ Olpe exits the poll with an 0-2 start.

Two newcomers to 6-man are now ranked in our top five, with Waverly and Tescott both making the jump up this week. Waverly won 7 games in 8-man last season, but Tescott won just two, and they’ve already matched that total with a win over previous number two Northern Valley.
