Strong start propels Dodge City past Bishop Carroll
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Scoring 4 goals in the opening 13 minutes, Dodge City put their foot on the gas and never let up in rolling to a 6-1 season opening win over Bishop Carroll Tuesday night.
After having an initial goal disallowed due to offsides, the Demons officially broke through a minute later off a set piece with Angel Lopez scoring his first of two goals on the night off a David Garcia assist. Garcia earned a second straight helper a short time later, sending a corner kick into the box that Ernesto Monge finished.
Then already with the 2 goal lead, the Demons broke free for a third but a foul was whistled just a yard shy of the box, and Aron Martinez started off a big night curving a shot off the post and in. He’d add his second for the first goal in the run of play at the 13 minute mark, giving the Demons a 4-0 lead they’d take to the break.
Lopez and Martinez each added another goal after the break.
Both teams are set to compete in next week’s Titan Classic, with DC taking on Wichita North in the opener Monday. Carroll plays at Heights Thursday ahead of the tourney’s start.
