DODGE CITY, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Out west, the Dodge City Red Demons come off a winning record season, finishing 6-3. They lost a lot of the core of that team, but still look to have a deep roster this season.

The Red Demons graduated 18 seniors from last years team, so they will have a bit of an inexperienced squad this season, but head coach Glenn O’Neil said he has lots of players stepping up to fill the holes. Some big returns for the Demons are senior DE Roman Loya and senior RB Luke Barker. Along with the two returning seniors also comes in a new quarterback in Maize South transfer Kaden Garvalena.

Despite the large roster turnover, the upperclassmen on this team said that DC fans shouldn’t be worries.

“A lot of seniors left but at the same time we were all competing for their spots last year, so we’re all just as good as they were last year on defense,” senior S Keenan Howard said. “So I expect us to be the exact same or even better.”

“We lost a big senior class last year but this year we have a lot of people stepping up and it’s an exciting year,” Luke Barker said. “We’ll see what happens. We’ll see what these kids bring. It’ll be different that’s for sure.”

Coach O’Neil said that not only are the seniors on this team going to play important roles, but the depth from the younger guys helps round out an even attack.

“I think we’re really deep in skill positions,” he said. “You know, we’re two deep all the way across the depth chart. I think we may be a little quicker in some spots than what we were last year with the skill guys [as well].”

The Dodge City Red Demons will open their season at home this Friday when Wichita West makes the trip out. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
