WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Bishop Carroll football ended its season a little earlier than they’re used to in 2021, getting knocked out in the second round of the playoffs and finishing with a 7-3 record.

“We’re working on our leadership, trying to get better at our leadership out of our seniors. We’re focusing on trying to get the details done right,” said Bishop Carroll’s head coach Dusty Trail.

Trail said they’re fortunate this year to have a lot of returners on both sides of the ball. One position they have to fill though, starting quarterback.

“That’s a competition, we’ve got a couple guys, Zach Stephen and Jackson King, Zach’s a senior, Jackson is a junior and they’re competing right now for that spot,” said Trail. “We’ve got a sophomore that’s making some waves too.”

While QB1 is still up for grabs, the Golden Eagles say they know they’ll have to clean up simple mistakes in order to set them apart this year.

Senior defensive end Walt Gray said, “Really just being consistent and being as close to perfect as you can be. We have sometimes when we’re jumping off ball offsides, stuff like that.”

“Just getting off the ball, blocking on the backside, finishing a play, just those little things that you really don’t think about matter but in the long run they do,” said senior wide receiver Tate Blasi. “I think those are going to win us the big games.”

Players say it’s their attitude and want to redeem themselves following last year’s regional round loss. It has pushed young guys to step up and add to the threat level of the Golden Eagles this year, opening the season hosting Northwest on September 2nd.
