Maize QB Avery Johnson commits to Kansas State
MAIZE, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - In front of a packed house at the Maize gymnasium Tuesday, July 5th, Maize standout QB Avery Johnson announced he will be staying in the state of Kansas and joining the Kansas State Wildcats.
Rated as the top player in the state of Kansas and a 4-star recruit, Johnson is fresh off being named to the Elite 11 squad last week in Los Angeles as one of the top quarterbacks in the country.
Now he joins a loaded 2023 class for Kansas State, headlined by the local talent staying in-state to play for head coach Chris Klieman. Just 11 days ago Johnson’s childhood teammate Dylan Edwards, RB out of Derby, also announced his commitment to play for the Wildcats. Collegiate’s Wesley Fair and Kapaun’s Will Anciaux, both 3-star recruits, previously announced their commitment to Kansas State out of the Wichita metro.
A dual-threat QB that threw for more than 2,500 yards and ran for over 1,000 as a junior, Johnson chose the Wildcats over Oregon and Washington.
