CIK Boys Track Tracker: Week Two
Week two of the track season is in the books! The Kansas wind still played a major factor but some big meets meant big improvements across the board. So far, 93 meets have been tallied. This week, regional locations have been added. Just a few sheets across the six classes remain unfilled, but a good week of weather will likely change that. A few missing meets were added that include class leaders in 2A, 3A, and 5A.
Shawnee Heights senior Jeremiah Smith was part of the marquee Class 5A 100m dash at state last May. The reigning 5A champ in the 100m dash and 110m hurdles already led Kansas this spring in both hurdle events. Last week he made his season debut in the 100m dash, running a wind-assisted 10.27 to become the state’s all-time leader.
Southeast of Saline senior Chase Poague won both Class 3A hurdles last season. He debuted in Marion Friday with the third-fastest all-class time (14.88) in the 110s, and the No. 6 time in the 300s.
Classmate Dylan Sprecker, who will run at Pitt State next year, won the 3A titles in the 800m and 1600m runs last May. He debuted in Marion with the state’s 10th-fastest 1600m time (4:28.51) this season, and he also posted a top-15 all-class 800m time.
Augusta senior Sawyer Schmidt won Class 4A titles in the 1600m and 3200m runs last season. He was invited to run against some of the state’s best at the Blue Valley Relays Friday. Schmidt’s 4:20.70 1600m run ranks No. 2 in the state this spring, and his 9:24.14 3200m time ranks No. 5 across all classes.
