Salina Central girls rolls over Lansing in state semis
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Salina Central girls doing what they’ve done all season long: dominate their opponents on the court.
On Friday’s 5A semifinal game between Central and Lansing, the Mustangs wasted no time getting out to an early lead and building on it throughout the game. Central would go on to beat the Lions, 68-37.
Leading by as many as 33 points in the fourth quarter, Salina Central shot 50 percent from beyond the arc (9-18) while Lansing only made one three all game, 1-7. The Mustangs had their most explosive shooting in the third quarter with 22 points, but had equally strong defense. They held the Lions to only three points that whole third quarter.
Chaliscia Samilton led Salina Central with 19 points, she also had ten rebounds for a double- double. That would be a game high as no one on the Lions roster scored more than ten points. Aubrie Kierscht and Hampton Williams both followed Samilton up with 13 points a piece.
The undefeated Mustangs have advanced to the 5A Girls State Championship game on Saturday in White Auditorium at Emporia State, set for 6:15 p.m. tipoff against St. Thomas Aquinas (22-2).
