Nickerson girls cruise past Trinity, 63-32
NICKERSON, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - The Nickerson Lady Panthers dominated the Wichita Trinity Academy Lady Knights 63-32 in a 3A Girls Sub-State semifinal.
Nickerson’s Ava Jones scored the first eight points of the game. She would account for 16 of the Lady Panthers’ 22 points in the first quarter. The Nickerson defense held Trinity to just seven points.
The Lady Panther defense would hold Trinity to seven points again in the second quarter. Meanwhile, on the offensive side of the court, Nickerson scored 17 more to led 39-14 at halftime.
Wichita Trinity had their most productive quarter in the third quarter with 13 points. Ava Jones scored all ten of Nickerson’s points in the third quarter.
By the fourth quarter, the margin increased enough to finish the game with a running clock.
Wichita Trinity’s Megan Hedstrom and Aubrey Winter led their team in scoring with eight points.
Ava Jones scored a total of 36 points in the game. She made 12 field goals and went 12 of 13 from the free-throw line.
This will be Nickerson’s fifth straight year to play in a Sub-State Championship. They will face fellow Central Kansas League team, the Hesston Lady Swathers.
”Hesston plays extremely good defense,” said Nickerson Head Coach Jon McLean. “It’s going to be hard to score tomorrow. We’re going to have to do a good job being strong with the ball and run the offense. But, I like our defense too.
