WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - There haven’t been many teams that have been able to knock off the Kapaun Mt Carmel Crusaders this season. The latest challenger coming in a substate championship game would fare no different as the Valley Center Hornets fell 61-42 on Friday.

Valley Center saw would keep the game tight after the first quarter, trailing the Crusaders by only two points after the first quarter. Kapaun would eventually pull away starting in the second quarter, taking a 31-20 lead to intermission.

Henry Thengvall was an important part of Kapaun’s dominance. The senior willing his team to a state title appearance with a game-high 28 points, scoring 9 points from beyond the arc. Will Anciaux followed Thengvall’s performance with 14 of his own, Dominic Shibley and Corbin Johnson each contributed 5.

Valley Center saw most of its production from Noah Simmons, the senior finished with 12 points, Kade Wilson would follow with 7.

Kapaun Mt Carmel advances to the 5A state tournament.
