PARK CITY, Kan. (KWCH) - Monday the Sterling College women’s basketball team won the KCAC Conference Tournament for the second year in a row. The championship team carries 14 players on their roster, 12 of which are from Kansas.

Sterling Head Coach K.C. Basset said that the roster full of in-state talent is intentional.

“I just love those small town kids because they just work hard,” she said. “Often times they are three or four sport athletes. They know what it takes and we have had a lot of success with them recently.”

Of these local names is senior Emmiley Hendrixson of Haven. She scored 25 points in the championship as well as a record breaking 41 points in their semifinal game.

Now this group of local girls is headed back to the NAIA National Tournament.

“It’s unreal,” Basset said. “Just a testament to these players that I get the opportunity to coach. They’ve just really rallied and they’ve worked so hard. They came out here and had a 30 plus point lead just exceeds all expectations. They just played so hard and I’m so proud of them.”
