CELEBRATION SLAM: Topeka wrestler tosses coach to mat after sealing State Championship
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - For the second consecutive year Washburn Rural High School brought home the 6A State Championship in wrestling, and nobody may have been more excited than Austin Fager.
Shortly following Fager’s individual victory on Saturday, the senior flexed to the crowd in excitement and then hip-tossed his head coach Josh Hogan as he was going in for a congratulatory hug.
What happened next was no surprise. Hogan told 13 NEWS what happened on Saturday was part of the plan at the beginning of the year.
Coach Hogan told 13 NEWS that Fager asked him early on in the season if he could “throw” him after he won a state title, to which Hogan couldn’t refuse. He then wanted to sell the toss as much as possible to honor how his young wrestler did for him all season.
It was all in good fun, as the coach instantly got up and continued the celebration.
Five wrestlers from Northeast Kansas came home with State Wrestling Titles over the weekend -- read more about them here.
