TMP girls hang on against Smith Center

HAYS, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - The TMP-Marian Lady Monarchs held on to win 57-50 over MCL foe, the Smith Center Lady Red.

The two Mid-Continent League teams squared off in Hays in a matchup of ranked teams. The KBCA ranked TMP-Marian #9 in Class 3A and Smith Center #7 in 2A.The Lady Monarchs took a 15-11 lead into the second quarter. They grew the lead to 25-15 halfway through the quarter.

Smith Center then went on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 25 points each with 47 seconds left in the first half. TMP’s Jaci VonLintel would score a layup with two seconds remaining to give the Lady Monarchs a 27-25 lead at the break.

TMP’s Sophia Balthazor scored eight points, including a pair of three-pointers, in the third quarter. The Lady Monarchs combined for 17 points to take a 44-39 lead into the final quarter.

Again, the Lady Red would storm back and tie the game at 47 all with 5:17 to go.

TMP would hold Smith Center scoreless for the final two minutes as they won 57-50.Smith Center’s Tallon Rentschler led all scorers with 21 points. Ashlyn Long added 14 points.

Emilee Lane for TMP-Marian led the Lady Monarchs with 19 points. Jaci VonLintel contributed 15 and Sophia Balthazor added 11.
