McPherson victorious after shootout game with Derby in MIT

WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Neck and neck the entire Derby and McPherson boys basketball game on Thursday night. The two teams closed out the first round of the 58th Annual McPherson Invitational Tournament.

The Bullpups were able to hold on and get a couple calls which led to their 51-48 win over the Panthers. McPherson outshot it’s competition hitting almost 40 percent of it’s field goals and out-rebounded with 35 boards. Seth Madron had a game high 27 points with six rebounds. Trent Parke led things for the Panthers, scoring 16 points.

Derby only had one more turnover (20) than McPherson (19) but each team’s perimeter shooting was rough. The Bullpups only made two of their 12 three attempts while the Panthers made four of their 25 long ball attempts.

Derby will move onto the consolation bracket where it will face Bishop Carroll. McPherson advances to the MIT second round/ semifinals to play Lawrence Free State on Friday night in the final game of the evening in McPherson.
