Bishop Carroll boys out hustled by Free State in MIT
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - In the first round of the McPherson Invitational Basketball Tournament, Bishop Carroll and Lawrence Free State faced off in the third game Thursday.
The Firebirds got off to a fast start going forcing five Golden Eagle turnovers in the first half and 20 total. Free State shot just under 54 percent from the field and sunk ten 3-pointers to give them the 73-34 win over Carroll.
The Golden Eagles didn’t have any players shoot double digits; Walt Gray led the team with seven points followed by Van Haneberg with six. Gray also tied for the team high in rebounds with four total boards. Collectively, Carroll struggled to get shots to fall going just 30 percent from the field and 25 percent from the free throw line. Scoring only 15 points in the first half, the Golden Eagles scored almost that in the third quarter.
Both teams had 30 total rebounds but the 20 turnovers for Carroll led to a lead as much as 46 points towards the end of the game.
Bishop Carroll will play Derby in the consolation bracket of the MIT on Friday at 4:45 p.m. in McPherson.
