Salina Central girls roll past Goddard to remain undefeated
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Salina central girls got out to a fast start, raking up an 18-point lead by the end of the first quarter. Successfully throwing off Godard’s shooting, the Mustangs led by as many as 37 points in their 64–36 win over the Lions.
“Great deal of respect for them,” said Salina Central head girls coach Chris Fear. “They played really really well, what they did at Andover Central was really impressive. So we were concerned, we were a little shorthanded, we’re missing one of our starters tonight. But we wanted to try and make everything difficult for Maycee James. Then, we were able to make a bunch of shots early and that always helps of course.”
Salina Central senior Hampton Williams said, “We honestly focus on defense a lot, we’ve been focusing on defense the whole season and we knew that with Maycee James and they have a couple key players that we had to really lock in on defense and stop and I feel like that’s what we did.”
“We’ve gotten off to big leads this year, we want to get off to good starts and once we get the ball rolling, we’re pretty tough to stop,” said Fear.
Salina Central moves to 8-0 and will host Abilene on the 20th in the Salina Invitational Tournament while Goddard hosts Maize South next week.
