Maize tops Andover for 4th straight win
ANDOVER, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - In an AVCTL contest, Maize was able to play spoiler on the road against Andover, winning 53-41.
The Eagles would hold the lead the entirety of the game, thanks in large part to a strong first half effort. Andover would enter the second half with a run of its own to narrow the gap to as little as five in the contest.
Madison Lambert was the leading scorer for the Eagles, with 15 of her team-high 19 points coming from behind the three-point line. Brynley Smith would follow Lambert’s lead with 12, while Brekkyn Pierce added 10.
The Trojans, relying on a young lineup, showed flashes in closing the gap late in the game. Brooke Walker had the hot hand for Andover, leading all scorers with 24 points. Mixing a number of mid-range shots with behind the arc success, Walker was able to score almost at will in the contest. Freshman Amelya Vance would follow with 9 and Sydney Anderson finished with 3.
The win marks four in a row for Maize, improving to 5-3 on the season. The Eagles will take on Life-Prep next.
Andover falls to 4-4 and is set for a cross-town rivalry game with Andover Central, next.
