Britton Dutton reaches milestone, leads Ellinwood in undefeated start to season
ELLINWOOD, Kan. (KWCH) - Ellinwood boys basketball is off to an undefeated start to the season. The Eagles are led by one of the best players in class 2A in junior Britton Dutton.
In just the second game of his junior season, Dutton reached the 1,000-career points mark.
“I didn’t think I was going to get it this year, but it was a goal as a freshman to get to 1,000 points by senior year,” Dutton said.
The milestone came in a 41-point performance in a win against Stafford last week.
“Nothing surprises me about Britton,” Ellinwood Head Coach Derek Joiner said. “I have coached him since he was in second grade, he has always been a special talent and been able to pick up things super fast.”
In the same week, Dutton also broke the program’s single game scoring record, dropping 48 points in a win over Lincoln.
“The biggest thing about Britton is his skill set, not just being able to shoot or dribble but he can use either hand and he has always been ambidextrous,” Joiner said. “He has always had good body control and all those things make him unique as an athlete. You show him something or he sees something, and he can imitate it and have that ability to make that play the very next day. That has always been his biggest gift.”
The junior said his ultimate goal is to lead the Eagles to the state championship, but he’s already focused on chasing another milestone.
“Since I got to 1,000, I’m going to see if I can get to 2,000 by the end of senior year.”
