Andover Central dominates Wichita East in opener
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - In the first game of the season, Andover Central looked like a team in midseason form, topping Wichita East 80-52.
From the opening whistle, it seemed as though the Jaguars were dominant in each phase of the game.
Defensively, the Jaguars effort was spearheaded by Omari Alsmadi. The junior denied any easy looks at the basket, altering shot attempts, or blocking them all together. That defense would evolve into points on the other end as the Jaguars took full advantage of open shots and driving lanes. Getting to the foul line proved to be an intricate part of the Jaguar attack, sinking 24 free throws night.
In his first outing in an Andover Central uniform, Kobe Smith showed why he was one of the best players in the GWAL a year ago. Despite dealing with early foul trouble, Smith changed the pace with his game high 26 points, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter. Skylar Clevenger would follow Smith with 17 points for the Jaguars.
Larry Graham had the hot hand for the Aces scoring a team high 21 points. Barry Glover would follow with 8 points while Travon Manuel added 7.
